TOUR IN FOCUS: CHRIST THE REDEEMER
Distance to this tour makes it unpractilcal go with bus or mini-bus (up to 20 passengers)
As large part fo the day will be spent going from Hotel to Hotel.

This tour should however be done with a Tour Guide even if on a tight budget.

You can get to the train station leading up to the statue by yourself.
However surrounding this tour there are several additional stops to choose from that are either nearly impossible or difficult to get to without transport. Main one of these are the viewpoint Dona Marta.
From altitude of 364 meters (Christ the Redeemer is at 710 meters) this close by view-point gives the best view of Botafogo, Sugarloaf and the entrance to Guanabara Bay and Rio de Janeiro.

Other combinations with Christ the Redeemer are the Chinese View in Tijuca Forest.
Viewpoint in Leblon and the beaches of São Conrado.

Going in the opposite direction of Leblon a tour to Corcovado (mountain with Christ the Redeemer) and the Dona Marta viewpoint can be combined with the neighbourhood of Santa Teresa. For cultural experience: The center for northeastern culture in northern part of Rio de Janeiro has typical music and food from north-east of Brazil.

Perhaps you just would like to see the best parts of city center or just go directly SugarLoaf.

In either case it is better to use a tour guide than public transport.
